Anders Ackfeldt

Anders Ackfeldt (M.A. in Islamology) has been employed at the Center for Middle Eastern Studies in Lund since 2007. Since the fall of 2011 he pursues a Ph.D. in Islamology at the Center for Theology and Religious Studies at Lund University. Anders’ Ph.D. project aims to investigate Islamic themes in hip-hop music and religo-political aspects of the hip-hop culture. The project is supported by the strategic research area The Middle East in the Contemporary World (MECW).

Anders academic interest areas are mainly current Muslim debates on Islam and music, with a focus on popular culture and African-American Islam. He has done field work among Muslim hip-hop youth in Istanbul, and among the Nation of Gods and Earths in New York. He has taught several courses in Middle Eastern Studies, Human Rights Studies, Islamology and European Studies.

Anders is a member of the network for Researching Music Censorship, the Swedish Research Institute in Istanbul and the Middle East Studies Association (MESA).

In 2006 he received Stora forskningsstipendiet at the Swedish Research Institute in Istanbul and in 2010 he received the Erasmus Mundus External cooperation Window staff scholarship for Yemen.
